On April 18 2021 LRC hosted the Inaugural DNF Ultra at Hawkstowe Park in South Morang.
45 runners from LRC, DCR, Mitchell Runners and Northern Runners participated, including a virtual runner completing the event from Hawaii!
Runners were set the challenge of completing mile laps within a set time. The time limit started at 15mins, and every 5th lap the time was reduced by 1 minute.
Throughout the event runners tapped out when they were no longer able to complete the loop in the required time.
By lap 29 the final two runners, Jack Nelson and Daniel Rees, both from Diamond Creek Runners, had just 8mins to complete their laps. Jack tapped out after lap 29, leaving Daniel with one more lap needed to be announced the inaugural ‘Finisher’ of our DNF Ultra.
The day was a huge success as we saw runners and spectators from the local area cheering each other on, and possibly a bit of gentle rivalry happening too!
The event was held as a fundraiser for Northern Health Foundation Cancer Services, and donations, entry fees and sponsorships saw the final total come in at over $1800.
The success of the event has had many people asking if it will be held again – you bet it will!
In 2022 we hope to open the event up to the wider running community, and we look forward to announcing the date when we have finalised the details.
A sincere thank you to all who made it such a wonderful day – the runners, the spectators, the volunteers and the sponsors. You’re all amazing. See you in 2022!
